Barry Wall

Barry Wall

We are very sad to announce the death of our dear former Chairman Barry Wall shortly before Christmas. He tirelessly led Sudbury History Society for many years with monthly meetings of informative and entertaining talks, often with himself as the speaker. He took us on countless coach trips to old East Anglian sites, buildings and Suffolk churches where he gave us a fascinating insight into their history. He wrote books including an authoritative guide to Sudbury. We are arranging a Memorial Service (date to be advised) to pay tribute to Barry and his invaluable contribution to Sudbury and its history.

  1. I’ve heard the sad news about Barry Wall’s recent death but had been surprised as I’d not seen any announcement or obituary in the local papers.
I see on this website that there will be a Memorial Service to pay tribute to Barry and his invaluable contribution to Sudbury and its history. Please would you advise me when you have more information so I may pass this on to our members?
I do hope Barry’s wealth of historical research material will be available to Sudbury History Society or Sudbury’s Museum trust?

    1. Thank you for your message.
There will be a Tribute to the late Barry Wall on Saturday 9th September 2023 at Sudbury Town Hall at 2pm.
We are hoping that his material will become available, but do not have definite information at this stage.
From Malcolm, on behalf of Sudbury History Society.
