Friday 21st August – A Stroll through Saffron Walden, with visits to Bridge End Garden, the Fry Gallery and the Town Museum, lots of time for eating, drinking and shopping…
The cost is £18 for the transport. We will be leaving Sudbury bus station at 9.30am and aim to be back in Sudbury by 4.30pm.
Prior booking essential. Places available as at 10 August. If you would like to join us, telephone 01787 311092 for more information.
The excursion to Saffron Walden has been carefully planned to give you all an interesting, but inexpensive, day out. We will have a coffee stop on the way, then our first venture in the town will be the Bridge End Gardens – beautiful!! Free entry!
The timetable is then to make our way to the church – entry is free, but donations welcome:
(“Lavenham and Saffron Walden are two historic market towns famed for their striking medieval architecture and magnificent “wool churches”—massive, breathtaking parish churches built with wealth from the 15th-century wool trade”.)
Then on to the Market Square area for lunch and shopping. In the afternoon the Fry Gallery is open from 2pm – dedicated to the Life and works of Eric Ravilious, free but donations welcome. Finally the town Museum – it is an excellent visit, entry for OAPs is around £2!!
All this is in a very small area of the town – so not too much walking.
The date and destination of the proposed October outing below are under review.
Friday 23rd October – Ipswich: Christchurch Mansion with the special exhibition of Constable and Gainsborough works, The City Art Gallery and the Ipswich Museum (due to reopen shortly).
