Outings – Sudbury History Society

In some months, an excursion is organised to Historical sites, Museums or a Gallery, usually on a Friday or Thursday in the second half of the month . Although this is subsidised by the Society, there is additional cost.

Prior booking is essential and may be done at meetings or by contacting our Treasurer Ann Spiller on 01787 372636. Outings usually depart from Sudbury Bus Station at 9am. The cost of transport is generally about £18 to £20.

Here is the list of Coach-Trips-2024 but please note:
1. The October outing to Framlingham & Orford Castles is on 25 (not 18) October. Admission is free to English Heritage members and probably about £10 for each castle for others. The cost of transport is only £15 on this occasion.
2. The outing for 20 September changed to:

National Museum of Horse Racing, Newmarket, 20^th September. It will be a half-day trip, leaving Sudbury Bus Station at 1pm and picking up on Melford Road and in Long Melford. I have had an inspiring preview tour of the museum and can recommend it to you all. The cost is £12 for the museum plus £16 for the coach: please let me have your cheque for £28 made out to Sudbury History Society, by 16th August. Try not to give me cash – with the current banking facilities in Sudbury it is much easier for Treasurer Ann to process cheques. If you do have to give me cash, please put it in a sealed envelope with YOUR NAME on the front.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond the Society’s control, the outing to Newmarket did not take place. We hope to include it in the programme for 2025.

Outings in previous years

Here is the Programme from April 2023 trips . The last outing of 2023 will be on Friday 24th November, to Norwich, leaving Sudbury Bus Station at 9am. Do your own thing – visit the Castle, the Cathedral, the shops, the cafés, … . The cost is £12. Book at a meeting or phone our Treasurer Ann Spiller on 01787 372636.
