Outing to Belvoir Castle

This outing has been replaced by a visit to Blickling Hall, Norfolk, because Belvoir Castle cannot accommodate us on that date. See outing-to-blickling-hall .

On Friday 16th September there is a coach trip to Belvoir Castle, near Grantham, leaving Sudbury Bus Station at 9am and hoping to arrive at about 11.30am. The outing is open to everyone.

The cost of transport is £20, payable in advance to our treasurer, Ann Spiller (01787 372636).

The entrance fee is £14, to be paid on the coach.

Belvoir Castle’s history dates back to the eleventh century. It is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland, where the family have lived in an unbroken line for almost a thousand years.

There is plenty to see and do in the house and extensive gardens and parkland.

Belvoir Castle is said by experts to be one of the finest examples of Regency architecture in the country.

In addition, the gardens have undergone several major changes over the centuries – the latest being a two-year restoration programme by the present Duchess to bring the lost plans of Capability Brown to fruition in 2016.
